Discussion 2: Historical Criticism and the To Live
Yu Hua depicts the life in China roughly from 1940's to 1970's, including events such as Chinese Civil War, the Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution. By applying the historical criticism strategy, how would you assess Yu Hua's description of the social change and people's life in the novel?
